I have a 1956 TED. It seems to have recently developed a blow back through the air filter, i.e. exhaust fumes 'popping' out of the top of the air filter when the engine is running. I may be imagining this, but I think this only started to happen when I recently fitted new TVO spark plugs (previously it was fitted with standard plugs )
The firing order seems OK and the engine starts easily and is running quite smoothly otherwise. Can this be a timing problem, or something more serious like a faulty valve?

. Since you say it runs smoothly I imagine that it cant be out of time far enough to be firing the plug before the valve closes, or the wires mixed up.. If it was mine I would run a compression test on it, the plugs are easy to get to. that will tell you if you have a valve hanging up/sticking etc.
