Hello Jack
I just finished the rebuild minus crank as it was fine and I get just a puff untill it warms up. Timing may be off a little. Have you adjusted the injection pump by loosening off the three nuts and turning it slightly untill the engine runs smooth ?

Thanks for the information Alan, I took of the air filter yesterday and cleaned it, there was two holes on the filter unit itself,so I got it fixed and installed it again and put in the oil to the required leve, to day I have the exhaust and manifold for cleaning and painting.
I think you may have nailed it,I,ll try to move the injection pump a little to see if it clears it up, I saw this also on the MF35 engine rebuild, so I thougth to asked question first before I tackle my engine. Can you tell me what the oil is for a the bottom of the air filter unit?

The air breather uses the same type of oil as your engine, 15W40, I think they also say to use a lighter oil in winter ???? So were the previous problems timing issues ? Do you have it starting well now ?

MF35x Easy started and running well, may have to move the injection pump some more.
when the engine is raved up there is no smoke at all, an after slowing down to idle speed for some time there is no smoke either until some minutes later in idle speed you can see the smoke coming out, although not bad!
