Here we have a video which shows how the differential lock pedal mechanism works on a tractor. This is from a 100 series Massey Ferguson, such as the 135, 165 or 168, but the principle is similar for many other models.
We took the video recently whilst at an open day at the engineering department of the local agricultural college.
There were all sorts of interesting things going on in the department, but we thought this gave a good view of the differential lock pedal mechanism. The video was just shot quickly with a mobile phone, so our apologies for that.
Anyway here it is…
Sometimes the mechanism gets seized from lack of use. If this happens then some penetrating oil into the pedal shaft can help, but sometimes it is necessary to dismantle the mechanism to free it off.
There was a discussion on the old forum, where a gentleman had a seized mechanism.
