Massey Ferguson 130 Tractor 1966.
The battery, only 6 months old, keeps going completely flat. All electrics disconnected, except starter motor and dynamo. All wires appear sound, clean etc.
Any idea of cause?
Hi John,
Have you disconnected the regulator box? That could be the cause of the problem.
Remove one battery lead (battery fully charged) then inbetween the lead and the battery terminal place an ammeter in the line. See if there is a reading, which will inidicate an electrical discharge (flow of current). If no flow registers then it is the battery.
You could swap the battery onto a different tractor and see if the problem goes with the battery.
Hope that helps,
VTE
Hi, had the same problem with our 130 and found that when the hood is closed it touches the battery terminal. Put a piece of poly pipe over the cable and clamp and never had this problem again. Simple solution, hope it helps.

I have a 1968 MF 130. The generator was removed about 3 years ago and replaced with a single wire GM alternator. It has worked fine for a couple years but now has died. I bought a late 90’s model alternator, GM, and has the “hot” terminal on the back as well as a plug for the regulator. This plug only has one wire coming out of it and I was told it goes to the “accessory” side of the ignition switch. Now, I pulled the panel under the steering wheel off and noticed that the aftermarket volt meter is connected to the center screw down terminals on the ignition switch. Is the center terminal on the switch the accessory? There are other terminals on the switch. One, looking directly at the terminals on the switch, to the right. This is , I believe, the block heater side. The heater has either been removed or was never put on, nothing tied down. The other to the left has two wires tied down. One goes to a “black box” on the firewall and the other goes to the engine compartment. What are these terminals on the switch and where do I tie down the “accessory” wire from the regulator plug. So it was so long winded, but I wanted to give a complete description.
Thanks,
